How does using database driven software keep costs down? For starters, almost all of the software we use both in house and with our clients is open source and freely available to the public. Not only does using open source software keep costs down, it also ensures a large support community and more expansive feature sets than are found when using proprietary software. Security fixes and other updates tend to be released more quickly as well, as there are a large number of people working on the development of any given project for the good of the greater community.

Costs are also lessened in terms of updates and initial design. Most software driven websites use design templates, which are sort of like plug-ins that tell your site how to look and operate. Changes can be made quickly to several sections of the site just by updating one section of code in the template. In addition, content updates, such as adding an article, a blog post, or a new product to your site can be achieved by logging in to the site and editing the text right in your web browser. This makes it possible for our clients to handle many content updates themselves, which drastically reduces costs, or if they'd still like to have us handling everything, the simplicity in adding content using web based software can often cut an update cost in half or more.
